Safehouse Digital

PRIVATE MICRO-WORLD NETWORK

MEMBERS PRODUCT / WEB + IOSCOMPLETE

The project

Safehouse Digital was the membership online — the half of it that worked when the room was shut. Every member kept a private micro-world of the people they were connected to, and met someone new through one introduction a week. It ran in the browser and on iOS, off one set of members, and the membership was administered from inside it.

A members-only community and physical third space in San Antonio. 150 members at $150 a month. The digital product had to extend the room to the days people weren't in it, for members who had paid to be somewhere small. Designed with the team's designer, built by one engineer.

Shipped to the App Store and the web. A third of 150 paying members adopted the app before the business closed in March 2026.

Web

A member's micro-world: status cards linked by hairlines, with the connections rail down the right-hand side.
A status being edited, with the connector's weekly suggestions in the rail beside it.
A member's status opened on the left, with the message thread to its author in the panel alongside.
A release in the listening room: the sleeve as a spinning record, the track list below it, and the tempo and key alongside.
The global feed as a grid of members' photographs.
The members console: every member as a row, with a full record open in the rail.

Mobile

The app's opening screen: the dot mark over a lit lounge render, with apply, log in and check-application-status.
A member's own card over the lounge render — avatar, name, online status and a pull-up to the full profile.
The profile opened, on the posts tab: a grid of the member's own photographs, with profile and studio alongside.
The micro-world as a list: nine connections, each with a profile and message control and the date it was made.
Statuses from the micro-world, each on its own coloured ground, filling the screen one after another.
A post in the feed — a member's photograph, the caption under it, and one reply.
The conversation list: each member with the last line they sent and how long ago.
One thread, open — two members talking across several days.
The listening room: featured releases and members' music, each with its sleeve.
A release opened — the sleeve, the artist, and the four tracks on it.
A track playing, with the transport, the artist's note on the recording, and its tempo and key.

The introduction

Members were introduced once a week from their answers to a short set of questions. Each introduction carries the reason the two should meet and a line to open with.

Safehouse on the web: a member's micro-world, and beside it the connections rail, where each introduction carries a one-line reason, what the two members share and where their paths overlap.

The members console

The community was run from one console. A member's full record opens beside the list, and the list stays in view.

Safehouse members console: the member list on the left, a single member's full record open in the rail on the right, with activity and connection outcomes visible.
